The Problem
Delivery and dispatch businesses frequently run assignment off a phone call and a paper log — so a dispatcher can double-book a rider without realizing they're already out on a job, nobody has a real sense of which part of town the fleet is actually concentrated in when a new order comes in, and rider earnings for the day exist only as a mental tally until someone reconciles it at close of business.
What We Built
A dispatch desk's whole job is matching orders to riders and knowing where things stand after that — and the two most common failure points are a rider being assigned who's actually already busy, and a dispatcher having no sense of where their fleet actually is. This system keeps the queue and the fleet in sync: only genuinely available riders can be assigned, taking an assignment immediately occupies that rider everywhere else in the system, and advancing a delivery through Picked Up and In Transit visibly moves the rider between zones on the fleet view — so completing a delivery isn't just a status flip, it's a rider becoming free and reappearing at the dropoff zone, ready for the next order.
Key Features
- An unassigned-order queue with a one-tap rider assignment restricted to riders who are actually available
- A live delivery board — Assigned → Picked Up → In Transit → Delivered — with a failed-delivery path and reason capture at any active stage
- A stylized zone view of the fleet (not a live map) showing which riders are in which part of town and what they're currently on, updating as deliveries move through pickup and dropoff
- Rider availability toggling, with a rider automatically locked to "on delivery" the moment they're assigned and freed the moment a delivery closes out
- Per-rider earnings and delivery counts for the day, computed from completed deliveries rather than tracked separately
- An operations overview — pending orders, active deliveries, available riders, and today's delivery revenue
